Take a Tip from Graceworks
We've expanded our tips page - we love giving you tips! Here are some quick pointers for being a better Presenter and Leader. We'll update these from time to time, so be sure to come back for more.

Presentation & Communication Tips

1. The "About Us" Segment
When you talk about your business, never lose sight of what you love about what you do, about what matters to you in your work. Businesses are not lifeless entities. They are made up of people - like you. So stand up there and with a beating heart dare to talk truth with passion. You'll be amazed at how easy it is and what a positive effect it has on your audience!

2. A Dangerous Place
Oddly enough, walking right into your vulnerabilities can strengthen you as a presenter. Don't hide behind your fears or self-consciousness. Open up in front of your audience; be honest and true. Then your most dangerous place actually becomes your safest.

3. Silence is Golden
As a speaker, you have one fluid moment to plant a solid thought in the minds and hearts of your audience. Make it easy for them to follow you. Share a thought or two, then listen (this becomes a pause). You'll find out if they're with you and this also gives them a chance to process what you just said.

Leadership Tips

1. First, Lead Yourself
On the plane they tell you to put your oxygen mask on before assisting other people with their masks. Why? Because if you don't take care of yourself, you won't be of any help to others. The same goes for leaders. Devote the time you need to care for yourself personally and professionally, then you'll be fit to serve those who depend on you.

2. Intent Check
Fact: Humans are self-absorbed. As leaders we mustn't let selfishness poison our good intentions. If it does, trust is lost, our influence wanes, and our team suffers. Get in the habit of constantly questioning your motives - with your children, your spouse, your team, your customers. Always be asking yourself, "Am I being selfish here?"

3. Set People up for Success
Want someone to dig a hole? Give 'em a shovel! Ensure your people have what they need to do their job. Some needs are obvious, like tools, materials, or direction. Other needs are more subtle, like authority, time, or training. As a leader, you should always be looking for the need - and finding ways to fill it.
